‘[7 News Boston] ‘In a war zone, oil doesn’t flow’: Russian Invasion Causing Pain at the Pump for Drivers Across US

March 3, 2022

Russia’s recent invasion of Ukraine is causing gas prices to soar in Massachusetts and other parts of the country. But why is that when the US gets such a small percentage of its crude from Russia? 7 News Boston’s Lisa Cresci sat down with Jay Zagorsky, Senior Lecturer in Markets, Public Policy, & Law, to discuss this question and others about the rise in fuel prices.

“The Boston area actually imports quite a bit of oil from Russia. Last year in 2021, we imported over $100 million worth of petroleum products and 20 percent of that was jet fuel.”
