The Eagle-Tribune recently published an article featuring Jay Zagorsky, Associate Professor of Markets, Public Policy, and Law, discussing the rules and regulations of fireworks. A few Massachusetts towns have decided to host Fourth of July fireworks celebrations a few days after the holiday this year. Despite weather being the usual factor for delayed fireworks, there seems to be another reason this year.

Zagorsky shares that staffing has postponed many celebrations in the state, “There’s not a lot of people who are licensed technicians, we’re talking less than 100 people in Massachusetts. A lot of them have retired, and then a lot of them are getting out of the business” he says.

The town of Methuen, specifically, has been able to adapt well to these circumstances by scheduling fireworks over the weekend for a better turnout. It has helped the holiday become prolonged into a week-long event drawing even more excitement.
