[WHDH Boston] Boston Residents Beg for a Break, But Expert Says Gas Tax Holiday Will Only Provide ‘a Large Pizza’ Worth of Relief

June 22, 2022

WHDH Boston recently published an article featuring Jay Zagorsky, Senior Lecturer of Markets, Public Policy, and Law, regarding Boston residents seeking relief from the shockingly high gas prices.

According to WHDH, gas price rates of nearly five dollars a gallon are interfering with residents’ daily routines, and they believe a tax holiday would provide much-needed relief. President Joe Biden has a three-month gas tax holiday in the works, but this may not provide much relief. Supporting this theory, Zagorsky claims,

“The typical driver uses one gallon of gasoline per day, that’s only an 18 and a half-cent savings each day. Over a 90-day gasoline holiday, that’s about 16 dollars, the cost of a large pizza.”

Jay’s insights highlight the fact that unfortunately, eliminating federal taxes for three months won’t bring much relief to the average American driver.
