Why are people leaving Massachusetts? Here’s where the state is falling short — and what the impact is.

The Boston Globe recently published an article featuring research conducted by Mark Williams, Master Lecturer of Finance, discussing outmigration being a top concern among business leaders.

Massachusetts is struggling with high-income taxes, housing prices, and healthcare costs, leading to more people leaving the state rather than moving in. With persisting economic threats, the state’s stability will continue to be affected.

“Some groups say if we lower taxes, people won’t leave. Or if we reduce the cost of housing, people won’t leave. But what you realize looking at the data is that it’s a combination of a lot of forces that influence human behavior,” Williams adds.

A comprehensive approach involving government, businesses, and communities is essential to resolving these problems.
