[Bloomberg] More Than Just a Resume: Women Are Using LinkedIn to Share Their Abortion Stories

July 1, 2022

Bloomberg recently published an article featuring Kabrina Chang, Clinical Associate Professor of Markets, Public Policy, and Law, on the decision by many women to share their thoughts and stories regarding abortion on LinkedIn.

The Supreme Court’s decision to overturn Roe v. Wade has led to a surge in women choosing to speak out on this topic, with many using their own experiences to frame the issue. Because LinkedIn is primarily a professional, not personal, network, tackling politically divisive issues like abortion is a brave choice that can expose workers to risk and disruption within their careers.

“People have been fired and disciplined for things that they post on social media. This is a platform where not just your current employer, but potential employers will go to look for you. That takes a tremendous amount of courage to do.”

Kabrina Chang

Sharing these stories in such a public fashion on a professional platform has shown changing ways in which people, especially women, feel compelled to combine their personal, political, and professional lives.
