Building Trust to Combat the Spread of Misinformation About Corporations

April 20, 2022

Harvard Business Review Analytic Service recently published a white paper on truth, trust, and tech, sponsored by the Boston University Questrom School of Business. The report provides a practical guide for identifying the challenges of managing misinformation and both the opportunities and dangers presented by the intersection of truth, trust, and technology. A number of topics are discussed in the report, including costs associated with online misinformation, the increased suspicion of credibility, and how to detect and respond to misinformation to reduce the impact it can have on the bottom line of an organization.

But tackling these challenges can be rewarding. As the white paper states, “The good news is that mitigating the impact of misinformation is not the only benefit from investing in trust-building. As it turns out, the activities organizations engage in to earn trust also make them better employers, partners, and participants in the marketplace and society.”
