Donald Trump’s Approval Rating Underwater in Swing State

Newsweek

Newsweek recently published an article featuring Mark Williams, Master Lecturer of Finance, discussing the decline of President Donald Trump’s approval rating in Nevada – a key swing state he carried in 2024.

According to Morning Consult, Trump’s approval in the state has fallen from 52% in March to 47% in September, tipping into a net negative in just seven months. This downward trend raises concerns for the Republican Party’s prospects in the 2026 midterms, as losing Nevada could influence control of Congress. Economic pressures, including rising rent and housing costs, are likely contributing to waning support, and broader polling indicates Trump is now underwater in all swing states, with particularly low approval among Gen Z voters (-42 net approval).

“The President’s low approval rating is being caused by increased firings, growing unemployment, stubbornly high inflation, and a government shutdown with no end in sight,” Williams adds.

As the 2026 midterms approach, these approval ratings signal potential challenges for the Republican Party in retaining key battleground states.
