Economic impact of Baltimore bridge collapse could be felt in Boston, expert says

March 27th, 2024

CBS News recently published an article featuring Jay Zagorsky, Clinical Associate Professor of Markets, Public Policy, and Law, discussing the economic repercussions of the Baltimore bridge collapse.

With Baltimore serving as the tenth biggest port in the United States, the bridge collapse could lead to an increase in prices.

“It imports a lot of cars, it imports a lot of heavy equipment, bulldozers and cranes, and for you and I, it imports a lot of coffee and sugar…people here in Boston, we’re going to see a small uptick but I don’t think it’s going to be a big problem here in the city of Boston,” Zagorsky adds.

In addition to imports, Baltimore is also a major exporter of military hardware, another industry that will be impacted.
