Boston Business Journal recently published an article featuring David Epstein, Visiting Professor in Global Leadership and Information Systems, discussing the proper use of artificial intelligence and determining its limitations.

Many of the most pressing questions about artificial intelligence are not technical, but ethical. AI is developing so rapidly that experts have yet to agree on matters such as what the technology will be capable of, what it will mean for the job market, and whether it will be good or bad for humanity.

For years to come, it seems organizations will need to grapple not only with how AI can be used, but also with how it should and should not be used. Employers will soon seek to hire talent that is well versed in AI tools and knows how to use them properly and ethically to solve business problems.

To meet these needs, Questrom School of Business is seeking to provide students with frameworks for ethical use of the tools. Epstein identifies the following areas as priority topics for today’s students: addressing bias, interaction with humans, concentration of knowledge and cautions about sources. He states, “We are in for a long haul of learning to use these tools properly and determining what the limitations are. I do believe AI has reached a point where it is fundamentally going to change everything in our lives”.
