How to Make American Health Care Cheaper and Better

September 6, 2023

The New York Times recently published an article featuring James Rebitzer, Professor of Markets, Public Policy, and Law, discussing his new book, “Why Not Better and Cheaper? Healthcare and Innovation.”

In contrast to other books about healthcare, which focus on cost, quality, and access, James and his brother Robert’s book emphasizes innovation. The idea of innovation includes changing incentives for the players in the system, such as doctors, patients, and hospitals.

Rebitzer adds that, “A healthy system should produce innovations that provide increasing value to patients and society at a lower cost.”

There are several possible solutions and fresh ideas presented in this book, despite the fact that policy discussion surrounding the healthcare system seems difficult to change.
