The Boston Herald recently published an article featuring Mark Williams, Master Lecturer of Finance, discussing how Trump’s immigration policies could severely damage Massachusetts’ economy.
Williams estimates that in 2026 alone, the state could lose $12.8 billion in GDP and $1 billion in tax revenue, with losses doubling if policies remain through 2028. Immigrants are crucial to the state’s economy, making up 29% of core labor roles, especially in STEM fields, and driving productivity and entrepreneurship.
“I want to articulate how much the financial hit will be to Massachusetts: I’m estimating that next year, that tax revenue could decline by $1 billion, GDP could decline by at least $12.8 billion, and over the Trump Administration — through 2028 — we’re looking at these numbers doubling,” Williams adds.
