Plane crashes, a global pandemic and terrorist attacks: How tragedy shaped DFW Airport

November 9th, 2023

The Dallas Morning News recently published an article featuring Samuel Engel, Lecturer of Marketing, discussing both the positive changes and challenges DFW Airport has endured over the years.

Factors like tragic crashes, the global pandemic, and unpredicted attacks have shaped the aviation community, ultimately leading to valuable lessons and reducing the chances of future accidents. Inevitably after 9/11, there was a downward trend in air travel with flyers taking extra precautions. Similarly, the COVID-19 pandemic contributed to losses in the travel industry.

Engel adds, “Despite the challenges the industry faced, there still was an urge to travel in the summers during the pandemic…We’ve continued to see that that the human urge to connect is robust.”

DFW Airport has overcome many challenges, learning from history and unpredictable matters along the way to help shape the resilient aviation industry.
