Poets & Quants recently published an article discussing how Boston University’s Questrom School of Business has worked to redesign its undergraduate business curriculum for the first time in 30 years, led by Associate Dean Jeffrey Furman, Senior Associate Dean of Programs Barb Bickart, and Senior Associate Dean of Faculty Anita Carson.
Involving over 70 faculty and staff, the overhaul aims to enhance real-world skills, offer earlier internship opportunities, and integrate critical thinking. The changes address outdated course sequencing and make the curriculum more rigorous and aligned with employer needs. Set to launch in fall 2025, the new structure, driven by feedback from alumni and employers, includes a revamped “Introduction to Business, Markets & Society” course.
“The theme of the course is business as a force for good, and it was designed as part of a student quest to understand competition, markets and the role of business, all with the newly created Ravi K. Mehrotra Institute for Business, Markets, and Society in mind. The redesign ended up with higher ratings than the earlier spring version,” Furman adds.
This curriculum overhaul at Questrom modernizes the program and better prepares students with the skills needed to succeed in the evolving workforce.
