The Washington Post recently published an article featuring Barbara Bickart, Associate Professor of Marketing, discussing people disconnecting from Valentine’s Day in an act of self-love.
Younger generations are straying away from associating Valentine’s Day with roses and flowers, and instead leaning towards satirical gifts and events that help individuals reclaim control and assert themselves.
“There are more anti-Valentine’s messages…like nails, with black, dark daggers,” Bickart adds.
The anti-Valentine movement reflects a deeper societal critique of how individuals navigate relationships, as well as self-love.
