Stateline recently published an article featuring Rena Conti, Associate Professor of Markets, Public Policy, and Law, discussing the concerns about rural hospital closures.
Rural hospitals, despite financial struggles, are hesitant to become rural emergency hospitals due to certain requirements. Proposed solutions include bills to reopen closed facilities and providing rural emergency hospitals access to the 340B federal drug discount program.
“There is a lot of money being generated in this program that we really can’t understand exactly how much that really is and exactly who it is benefiting,” Conti adds.
Although challenges persist, the push to expand this access continues, driven by the need to support underserved communities and ensure access to vital healthcare services
