PET recently published an article featuring Rena Conti, Associate Professor of Markets, Public Policy, and Law, discussing TrumpRx, the drug-discount platform launched by President Donald Trump, with the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services estimating up to $2,200 in savings per IVF cycle.
Among the drugs listed is Gonal-F, used to stimulate ovulation, which can cost hundreds of dollars less than at typical pharmacies. However, experts caution that the program benefits only a narrow group.
“For very niche populations and very specific medication, at least in the case of infertility, it looks like this might be a good deal. This is not fundamentally altering access or furthering transparency at this point in time, except for a very few selected patients who are using a very limited set of drugs,” Conti adds.
Some medications may already be available at lower prices via generics or other discount programs, meaning TrumpRx provides targeted – but not comprehensive – relief for patients paying out of pocket.
