Newsweek recently published an article featuring Mark Williams, Master Lecturer of Finance, discussing President Trump’s deal granting the U.S. government a 10% stake in Intel.
This move is drawing bipartisan criticism as a potential break from free-market capitalism. Supporters frame it as protecting taxpayers and strengthening U.S. chip production, while critics warn it resembles cronyism or state-managed capitalism.
“The intel deal pushed by the government is the latest example of a march towards state capitalism. Recent White House deals involving Intel, Nvidia and AMD are troubling and allow the government to interfere with the free market, picking what industries and companies are the winners or losers,” Williams noted.
The move highlights Trump’s growing pattern of direct involvement in business, raising broader questions about the future of American capitalism.
