The Bay State Banner recently published an article featuring Justin Ren, Associate Professor of Operations and Technology Management, discussing Massachusetts’ efforts to boost electric vehicle (EV) adoption to reduce carbon emissions.
In Massachusetts, transportation significantly contributes to the state’s emissions. Ongoing challenges include high vehicle costs and inadequate charging infrastructure. To tackle these problems, the state is prioritizing the expansion of charging infrastructure, especially for those without private parking, and is working to enhance public awareness and accessibility.
“If I want to make a trip to New Hampshire, it’s going to take 300 miles, more or less, and I just don’t want to be stranded. Those are the kinds of concerns that are keeping at least some people away from buying an electric car,” Ren adds.
Massachusetts is also expanding EV rebate programs to lower the cost of electric vehicles and is focusing on better outreach and education, especially in underserved communities, to ensure fair access to EVs.
