BU Today recently published an article discussing the remarkable story of Alexa Quintero, Questrom class of 2024.
In 2019, Alexa’s life took a dramatic turn when she was diagnosed with hypermobile Ehlers-Danlos syndrome, a rare genetic disorder affecting fewer than 200,000 people in the U.S.
Motivated by adversity, Alexa and biomedical engineering student Audrey Lindsay designed an improved feeding pump called Tubie2Go, featuring advanced features like touchscreen controls, a phone interface, and alerts sent to a user’s watch.
“A lot of people with my condition have mobility issues, and pressing down on the buttons is actually really hard for their joints. So by having a touchscreen and all of these other features, it’s going to be accessible to a lot more people,” Quintero adds.
As Quintero prepares for law school, she remains committed to advancing her project and inspiring others facing similar health challenges.
