American Academy of Pediatrics recently published a study co-led by Rena Conti, Associate Professor of Markets, Public Policy, and Law, discussing the use of antidepressant drugs amongst younger populations.
The increasing prevalence of mental health disorders among children and adolescents is a significant and long-standing concern, with rising rates of anxiety, depression, and suicidal ideation. During the Coronavirus outbreak, both males and females sought antidepressants, which continued to rise for females after the pandemic, whereas males declined.
“We need a groundbreaking initiative that transcends the confines of our present thinking and practice to reconceptualize the way we approach mental health for the patients and families in our care,” the study adds.
