The New York Times recently published an article featuring Jay Zagorsky, Clinical Associate Professor of Markets, Public Policy, and Law, discussing the fast-food industry’s drastic expansion.
“Super-Size Me,” a documentary released 20 years ago highlighted the detrimental effects of a fast-food diet and America’s obesity crisis. Despite the documentary’s impact on public sentiment, the fast-food industry has remained popular due to its affordability, convenience, and taste.
“I used to own shares of McDonald’s. Around the time of ‘Super Size Me,’ I sold off the shares, and now I’m saying to myself why? That was one of the greatest stocks,” Zagorsky adds.
Despite concerns about the health implications of fast food, its popularity persists, fueled by extensive marketing and societal factors.
