MIT Sloan recently published an article outlining MIT’s Golub Center for Finance and Policy (GCFP) panel event that included Mark Williams, Master Lecturer of Finance.
The panel addressed whether the changes to the Federal Home Loan Banks (FHLBs) might be warranted, which would affect the bank’s mission, sources of liquidity, role in community development, and operational efficiency.
Overall, the panel recognized the importance of ongoing discussions about the evolution of the FHLBS in light of changing financial markets, but Williams also raised concerns about making system changes without exploring fully the risks and unintended consequences.
