Why are Banks Failing and Does That Herald Another Financial Crisis?

September 20, 2024

BU Today recently published an article discussing the launch of the Ravi K. Mehrotra Institute for Business, Markets, & Society, aimed at reinforcing the positive role of capitalism and responsible business practices.

Concluding a daylong celebration, Former US Treasury Secretary Lawrence Summers emphasized the importance of strongly advocating for capitalism, referencing his personal connection through his mother, a Wharton School Professor, and her groundbreaking contributions to the study of business and society.

Summers highlighted the importance of CEOs considering systemic impacts rather than merely focusing on profits.

BU President Melissa Gilliam stressed the institute’s ambitious mission to reshape perceptions of business and its potential to drive positive change. The Mehrotra Institute aims to engage in meaningful discussions and research to foster a more constructive dialogue about the role of business in society.
