Poets and Quants recently published an article featuring Questrom Dean Susan Fournier, discussing the launch of the Ravi K. Mehrotra Institute for Business, Markets & Society.
With only 40% of 18- to 29-year-olds viewing capitalism positively, the new institute aims to foster a deeper understanding of how business and markets can address the world’s biggest societal challenges. Another key objective is to help address the growing skepticism toward capitalism among younger generations, particularly MBA students.
“If business schools are to deliver on their missions, we need to confront the realities of public perception of business and the competitive markets in which they operate, especially among young adults,” Fournier adds.
Funded by a $51 million gift from Ravi Mehrotra, a successful entrepreneur, the institute will focus on educational initiatives, discussions about capitalism, and faculty research exploring the balance between business success and societal goals. Mehrotra emphasizes the importance of industry self-regulation and expresses concerns over government inefficiency, advocating for business as a force for good.
