The Brink recently published an article featuring Gordon Burtch, Kelli Questrom Associate Professor in Information Systems, referencing his research linking the connection of state-level abortion restrictions to mental health issues.
Since Roe v. Wade was overturned, there have been several repercussions, such as mental distress due to the physical and economic burdens of searching for abortion care. Burtch’s research explores how abortion restrictions have impacted those of lower education and wealth and led to broader anxieties about future rights.
“The mental stress that comes with these policy changes isn’t just due to the policy change itself, but also the ambiguity around the change,” Burtch adds.
These restrictions affect a broader audience, including family members and caregivers, urging policymakers and caregivers to consider the mental health implications of abortion policies.
