France 24 recently conducted an interview with Michel Anteby, Professor of Management and Organizations, discussing his book The Interloper: Lessons from Resistance in the Field.
The book explores how to manage resistance encountered during fieldwork as a researcher. Anetby encourages field researchers to embrace the challenges and obstacles they face, a lesson he has learned through years of personal experience. He emphasizes the importance of building trust while also being aware of the reasons behind any resistance and the nature of it, as there is a lot that can be learned from any pushback received.
“The more you get pushback, the more you actually realize what’s happening behind the veil. If you can identify patterns, then you know exactly where the difficulty lies and you can maybe try to re-enter through a different door,” Anetby explains during the interview.
Drawing from his own experiences and examples, Anetby discusses his book and the insights he has gained over years of facing resistance and pushback. His book offers valuable information not only for researchers but also for everyday life.
