Law360 recently published an article featuring Fred Foulkes, Professor of Management and Organizations and Faculty Director of the Human Resources Policy Institute, discussing major labor negotiations for 2024.
With increased momentum and public support empowering unions, more strikes are on the horizon for 2024. The International Longshoremen’s Association recently announced that the union’s master contract with the United States Maritime Alliance won’t be extended past the parties’ six-year agreement.
“The leverage there is sometimes, unless these local things are buttoned up, we don’t have an agreement…it makes things more complicated, and it can be very challenging,” Foulkes adds.
There are many concerns for union members regarding raises and automation, making these negotiations difficult to navigate.
