The Boston Globe recently published an article featuring Kim Donlan, Lecturer of Marketing, discussing the rise of high-end water bottles as status symbols and fashion accessories.
Popular brands such as Stanley and Hydro Flask have benefited greatly from social media influencers promoting these products. Reusable bottles have also grown in popularity due to sustainability efforts.
“It’s part of how you present to the world…people are making judgments about what you care about … based on how you are consuming liquid,” Donlan adds.
The marketers for Owala, the rising water bottle brand, are thinking more like a fashion brand to reach their target audience.
