Behavioral scientists and psychologists are beginning to study how the use of new AI-powered text and image generators affect human creativity, judgment, and decision making. GPT and other generative AI’s have been labeled as job decimators and productivity booters. Scientists and developers unveil and compare the capabilities and weaknesses of these tools – but there are equally important questions about how exactly they might affect our own abilities and skills. When asking if one prefers making a decision using human judgment or an algorithm, most people say they prefer humans. Longoni states, “So far, there seems to be a general distrust of machines and algorithms”.
