How Apple Defines Consumer Logic
Share on FacebookShare on TwitterShare on LinkedIn

September 13, 2023

The Swaddle recently published an article featuring Dean Susan Fournier discussing how Apple consistently defies consumer logic.

Apple’s iPhone 15 event just unveiled its new line of iPhones which Apple claims iPhones will be the “strongest, fastest, and most powerful yet.” It is well known that Apple products are constantly being updated because of their “planned obsolescence.” Their products have become a lifestyle symbol of affluence, elegance, and refined taste, almost becoming a quasi-religious symbol.

Fournier explains how, “cult brands carefully tap into the consumer psyche to become closely intertwined with fans’ lifestyles, adding that these companies don’t just sell products – they tap into a ‘resonant cultural theme.’”

In the end, it’s easy to overlook the cost and materiality of the device. Nevertheless, some are pushing back.
